United Make Capital Gains
By Betting Zone March 3 2008
Manchester United are in to 4/6 from 5/6 with Betfred to retain the Premier League title after Arsenal needed a last-gasp Nicklas Bendtner equaliser to prevent defeat at home to Aston Villa. Sir Alex Ferguson's side were much more convincing in an easy 3-0 triumph at Fulham and are now only one point behind the Gunners at the top of the table.

Arsenal were consequently eased to 2/1 from 11/8 as they extended their winless sequence to four games in all competitions.

Arsenal's slip meant Chelsea were also cut, to 5/1 from 6/1, after their 4-0 crushing of West Ham at Upton Park.

Fred Done, a lifelong Red Devils fan and boss of Betfred, said: "It was a pivotal weekend when United won at Fulham last season and it looks like history could be repeated.

"I've been saying all season Arsenal would eventually fade and that experience would come into play and it seems to be happening now."

At the other end of the table it was a disastrous day for Newcastle who are now just 9/2 on Betfair to be relegated.

Kevin Keegan's search for a first win since he returned to Newcastle continued after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn at St James' Park after Matt Derbyshire struck in injury-time.

And the Magpies' woes were compounded when relegation rivals Reading and Birmingham both picked up vital wins.

It all means Newcastle are now just three points above the drop zone.
